I had done everything I knew to get it to work and Fix #1 worked like a charm. The menu item wasn't 'HT Mode 20/40', but it was equivalent as the dropdown option included '20 or 40 MHz'. None worked but I'm convinced it has to do with my tcp/ip stack. I can connect with USB on my computer and I can connect to WI-Fi if I am using someone else's WI-FI so it's all got something to do with our WI-Fi
